Edward R. Murrow's Response to Senator Joseph McCarthy

During the program, McCarthy said of his appearance on CBS’s program, “I feel justified in doing so because Murrow is a symbol, a leader, and the cleverest of the jackal pack which is always found at the throat of anyone who dares to expose individual Communists and traitors.”

Following McCarthy’s appearance on the program, Murrow produced another segment titled Response to Senator Joseph McCarthy.

The Court wrote that it assumes “there is pollution in the Orienté” and that “improvement of conditions for the residents of the Orienté appears to be both desirable and overdue”, but “even if Donziger and his clients had a just cause–and the Court expresses no opinion on that–they were not entitled to corrupt the process to achieve their goal.”

The Killing of Clergy

Archbishop Oscar Romero, the Salvadorian priest assassinated by men trained and armed by the United States to fight in the El Salvadoran government’s war once said, “Those who work on the side of the poor suffer the same fate as the poor.”

On July 26, 2016, two men entered morning Mass at Saint Etienne du Rouvray in Normandy, France and took five hostages, killing Father Jacques Hamel – the parish’s octogenarian priest (another hostage is in critical condition.)

In response to the terrorist attacks in Munich and Kabul, Pope Francis delivered a speech, Against the Acts of Terrorism (the Pope’s words came before the event which claimed the life of the priest in Normandy.)

Eudora Welty, John Steinbeck, James Agee, Saul Bellows, Erksine Caldwell, Walker Evans, Ben Shahn and Studs Terkel all worked under the projects, which ran for four years.

Works produced by the artists following their employment under the program, included Let Us Now Praise Famous Men (Agee and Evans), Tobacco Road (Caldwell), The Grapes of Wrath (Steinbeck), and, Uncle Tom’s Children (Richard Wright).
