An article published by Diken describes a telephone call between President-elect Donald Trump and Turkey’s President Erdogan as “incredibly good” and “quite colorful”.
The news organization quotes Mr. Trump as saying to Erdogan, “Good evening. I really respect you. You have done very good things for your country.”
Mr. Trump then conveyed Ivanka Trump, Mr. Trump’s daughter, as a “very big fan and supporter.” Ivanka Trump, the President-elect’s daughter, owns a women’s lifestyle brand, and manages aspects of Mr. Trump’s businesses. She is married to Jared Kushner, the owner of the New York Observer, a U.S. newspaper.
Diken, relying on official sources, writes that Mr. Trump “mentioned Doğan’s brother-in-law and his partner in Turkey” Mehmet Ali Yalçındağ as being “my close friend”, and quotes sources as suggesting Trump “opened the Yalcindag issue”.
Mehmet Ali Yalçındağ was forced to resign his position as Chair of Doğan Media Group on September 30, 2016 following an email leak by the hacktivist group RedHack.
Erdogan raised the issue of the President-elect’s rhetoric against Muslims and asylum seekers.
Diken reports the two leaders will meet at the “mini-NATO summit” which will take place in the first quarter of Trump’s presidency.
Doğan’s shares rose 0.75 liras to 0.83 liras following the call.
