Wikipedia offers a tool for those who wish to collaborate on research projects to work together on a topic of group interest. A WikiCounsel oversees the use of the tool and Wikipedia provides guidelines and standards for groups to follow. The idea of collaboration between a group of individuals who specialize or hold certain knowledge communicating with other individuals who hold knowledge still, is fascinating. While we haven’t seen the application utilized between researchers, writers and investigative reporters, the framework for that type of collaboration is available with this sort of tool. And, because standards have been created by Wikipedia, it’s easier to get one group of individuals to adhere to the same when creating their project and working toward the same.
